



Improvement of flood protection structures that include restoration, strengthening, and up-gradation of flood embankments. It is expected that intervention under this component would protect 517,000 hectares of land, more than 2 million acres of cropped area, 6,500 kilometers of roads, estimated population of 5 million and 600,000 housing units.
To address water scarcity, drought and flash flooding risks in Kohistan and Nagarparkar regions, 15 Nos. of small recharge dams will be constructed. These dams will be rainwater-fed recharge dams and will not be more than 10 meters in height. Dams will not only recharge the ground water but will also protect communities from torrential and flash flooding.
The sub-component will support the Sindh Irrigation Department for implementation of nonstructural measures to enhance flood management and drought mitigation. This sub-component will support equipment Instrument upgrading, establishment of Decision Support System, river morphology studies and floodplain mapping.
Project (SRP) will focus on improving institutional capacities, performance,
and preparedness at key agencies responsible for managing disaster risk in Sindh.
